A life in the week…

I am often asked by those unfamiliar with ‘Christian work’ what I do in the week, and I invariably find it rather tricky to give a simple answer. So for those with nothing better to do but read this, I decided to ‘blog’ my week….

Tuesday – First week back from a short summer break (holdays are often a brief and interrupted experience) and hit the week running. Debrief with office manager and wade through a 122 emails (thats not including the ‘spam’). Back to the house to catch up over some lunch with newlyweds who are fresh back from working overseas. In the afternoon I prepare some notes on the new Sunday teaching series on Acts. We chew it all over at the preachers group in the evening. All quite pleased with the results – pray the delivery is as good as the plan!

Wednesday – First thing; cycle over to Lewisham for a ‘Network’ meeting with several other leaders. Looked at several centrally scheduled courses for 2008 (XLP, iNet mission training, Digging Deeper) and discuss possible new course and more ‘joining up of the dots’. Cycle back. Work on a draft invitation for Southwark church leaders to the next Transform Southwark event in Southwark Town Hall in September focussed on praying for education in the borough. I do some more emails and start my prep for Sundays preach. Get drawn into a great book called ‘The Desire of the Everlasing Hills’ telling the story of the before and after impact of Jesus life on earth. Make several pastoral calls in the evening.

Thursday – In the morning I hold a consultation on the Wells Way site with a chartered surveyor recommended to me. Have a wide ranging discussion, looking at all sorts of scenarios for the buildings, lots of food for thought… At 12.00noon I co-host a meeting with Jonathan Oloyede regarding the Global Day of Prayer coming to Millwall in 2008. 20+ senior London leaders are present and we agree that Millwall is the best option. SFJ are to act as host borough. I agree to kick off vision for 2008 by organising a leaders meeting at Millwall in October. There is a lot of support and Premier and all the GDOP team will be promoting it. This is first step in the fulfillment of a long held dream. In the evening we enjoy a meal with our good friends Ken & Hazel McGreavy.

Friday. am – meet in the office with core group for Alpha course planning. I and another stay on and discuss short film clips for evangelistic series in October. Overprint Alpha leaflets. In the afternoon my daughter is starting moving her stuff into her new flat in Peckham. Take a load over in car and assemble an Ikea bookcase, hang stuff etc. Return late and have supper. As finishing last bite a single mum rings whose young daughter is unconscious at Kings. I text the community group to pray and go visit. Little girl is in bad way but subsequently improves quickly. Get back 11.00pm.

Saturday. Am.- Prepare preach. – take more stuff to daughters flat. 4.00pm we visit a local pastor who we are friends with.

Sunday – Preach the intro to Acts series. After church do a leaflet drop of Alpha flyers in some local streets. Have a late lunch and go to the HOUSE café to return everything to normal after building works ready for reopening tomorrow.
