Why and How should I tell others?
Introduction
Great Commission (Matt 28:16-20)
• Needs of others
• Gospel=good news (about Jesus)
Two dangers: Insensitivity & Fear
Key = relationship
• Co-operation with God’s Spirit
1) Presence
•We are called to be salt and light (Matt 5:13-16)
•People watch people who have a different belief
•Actions speak louder than words (1 Peter 3:1-2)
2) Persuasion
There is a place for pro-active persuasion (2 Corinthians 5:11)
Christianity is a rational faith and can be backed up by argument (Acts 17:2-4)
What are good answers to common questions? (Don’t all paths lead to God? How can a God of love allow suffering?)
3) Proclamation
Jesus asks Christians to be witnesses of the things they have seen (John 1:39-42)
Christians should be able to explain to others about the hope that they have.
Power;
Words, Works and Wonders
• Miracles arouses people’s interest
• Miracles are a sign that that darkness is being pushed back! (Acts 3)
4) Prayer
Christians pray to open blind eyes (2 Corinthians 4:4)
Christians pray to have boldness (Acts 4:29-31)
Conclusion;
Christians shouldn’t give up! (Romans 1:16)
Resources:
Preparing a testimony
Keep it short
Make it personal – it’s not a preach!
Use “I” or “we” don’t use “you”!
Keep Christ central (not you)
Format: Before Christ –> Turning point –> After Christ
Write it down
Prayer of commitment:
Lord Jesus Christ, I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. Please forgive me. I now turn from everything which I know is wrong. Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. Thank you that you now offer me this gift of forgiveness and your spirit. I now receive that gift. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen
