Halfway HOUSE
Update October 2011
There has been a lot happening at HOUSE in the last two months.. and a lot more coming.
Events
So far we have had lots of events happening at the HOUSE gallery which has included a film night, where we showed the moving story of Mama Choko, which highlighted the plight of the Afro-Colombians that were forcibly removed from their land by the military and now live in severe poverty in the inner cities of Colombia. We also had a successful Open mic/Jam evening at the House where we saw local musicians with great talent perform bring their instruments and perform together. We had a poetry evening and HOUSE has also been part of the Elephant and the Nun festival, in which we had a professional dancer dancing performing a picnic scene in the window of the gallery, which passers by were able to see. During the months of August and September we have had Katie Keeble, professional dancer and choreographer, produce a contemporary dance class for beginners. We have also had a lovely review from John Prendergast at the Southwark News, that commented on our big sandwiches, relaxing environment and finally stated how HOUSE Gallery oozes with cool.
New menu
To follow from this, we have also had a brand new menu, with fantastic and yummy breakfast items such as Pancakes with Maples Syrup and Bacon, lunch time ciabattas like homemade roasted vegetables, with pesto, olives and mozzarella and a huge range of new smoothies including the Jamaican me Crazy with apple juice fresh, passion fruit and banana. Not to mention the community inspired Camberwell Crush!!!We have launched competitions at the HOUSE which include, design your own sandwich, with the winner to be announced at the end of the month. We have had lots of crazy sandwich ideas like cheese, coleslaw and bacon!?? We have also invited customers to try different varieties of fairtrade coffee, our vast array of special Tea Pigs tea and cakes.Homemade goods I am very fond of homemade foods so we are now making our own soup specials, like cream of coriander, tomato and basil and other soups. We are also making our own cakes, roasted vegetables and hummus. If you have any further ideas or recipes passed down from mum or dad that HOUSE could serve to the local community, please see Sarah.
Down in the Gallery
We have had Hayley Walker exhibit a series of paintings called Alter Ego and we now have artist Eddie Saul and Adam Dunne, exhibit paintings and drawings for their current exhibition, please come on down and see the talent exhibited in the gallery.
