The Butterfly Effect

This month we have been looking at the calling and history we have as a church for the nations. Though not (very) large in number locally, we believe our impact is way beyond our size as we connect with an incredible number of nations through our missions workers and other relationships.

At The Well we define ourselves in part as a ‘house of prayer for all peoples’ (Is56:7). This scripture is refelected in our prayer room where most of one wall is a World map mosaic made from carpet cuttings. Someone once coined the phrase “think globally and act locally”. This is a great maxim for the local church in mission, and if, on occassion, we can act globally as well as locally, then all the better!

Trevor stated this Sunday that a church that had stopped doing mission had in effect ‘stopped being church’. In the words of CS Lewis; “The church is the only society that exists for the benefit of its non members.” Our great commmission is to make disciples as we go… so, as we go…to work…to our summer breaks…to London…to the nations… lets continue asking the Lord for our inheritance. (ps2:8)

This last week I was invited to be part of a panel discussion on a local radio station (Radio Peckham) The title of the Show was ‘In the name of…’ and the panel included A local Muslim cleric, a Catholic priest and myself representing Evangelical Christians. You can listen to the podcast from the website.
